Scott Van Vliet Once a Developer, Always a Developer

After burning the midnight oil until something past 4:00 AM to get our demo working, I missed the keynote.  However, a flash of emails from others at the keynote informed me that the next "wave" or products from Microsoft (Visual Studio 2005, SQL Server 2005 and BizTalk Server 2006) would be released the week of November 7.  This is great news, and I am excited to get our clients onto the new platform (.NET 2.0, SQL 2005.)

Not to mislead you, 4:00 AM was not the time that our demo was fixed or completed.  This is the time that we decided to give up for the night and get some rest.  Pete and I spent most of the morning and into the early afternoon trying to get our demo working.  We got to the Convention Center with approx 15 minutes to spare and still our demo was not working properly.  We eventually gave up on the demo and provided and off-the-cuff “chalk-talk” about customers’ experience with BizTalk in their organizations.  It turned out to be a great session, and the participants touched a lot of good points.  With 15 minutes left in our session, we FINALLY got the demo running, integrating a PO orchestration with a ColdFusion Web Service, which called a Java SMS Gateway, sending an SMS Text Message to a mobile phone when a PO failed.  After receiving the SMS message on the mobile phone, we replied with instructions on how to handle the failed PO.  It’s a pretty compelling story, and those that stuck around agreed.

I’m off to a dinner with my fellow Hitachi Consulting folks from around the country.  It’s still hot … it’s still sticky … yuck. :)
