.NET User Group of BC Meeting
Ah! No more having to drive through traffic to get downtown after work to make it to the GUVSM meetings in Montreal in the freezing cold. Now I have to take the Skytrain back home, get the car and drive out to the BCIT campus to attend the .NETBC meetings. At least it's not cold. The next meeting is this coming Monday and I'll be trying out the new .NET dash to hear the following: This session will include several parts, the first being an introduction to Business Intelligence and how it encompasses ......

Vancouver Beercasting/Blogger Meeting for April 2005
Due to a recent run of beautiful Super Sunny Sparkle Weather© here onthe left coast of Canada all blogging was put on hold during the weekend for the enjoyment of the out of doors. But, as promised, here's my writeup of the Vancouver Beercasting/Blogger Meeting for April 2005.When we first got there we were warmly welcomed to Vancouver by Boris(thank you Boris!) and introduced to the whole group. Somehow it'seasier to remember names when there is a URL or blog name associated with them. The meeting ......

Vancouver Beercasters/Bloggers Meetup Mini Review
The Vancouver Beercasters/Bloggers Meetup was last night and it was alot of fun. Kris got me involved in a recorded discussion about bad job interview questions. I think it went well, I was nervous at first but the conversation got going later on, I think it will all sound good. I'll link to the cast once it's published. We met alot of new people (details and links to follow) but it's a beautiful warm day today so I'm going to get out of here and enjoy the sunshine. For now, here are some pictures ......

The Starbucks Effect
An interesting article on how Starbucks (and other morning pitstops) may be affecting traffic patterns due to the change in commuting trends. The Starbucks Effect In addition to its effect on mileage, the boom in on-the-go breakfastshas confounded attempts to forecast travel patterns, which are basedon computer models that rely heavily on the predictability of themorning commute. Those models assume that people take the shortest, fastest routes to work, not the ones that necessarily lead past adoughnut ......

What Kind of American English Do You Speak?

Your Linguistic Profile:
55% General American English
25% Yankee
15% Dixie
5% Upper Midwestern
0% Midwestern

Interesting... I guess my east coast influence shows thorough in the Yankee and lack of Midwest speech.

Eat Vancouver
The Eat Vancouver show is this weekend down at BC Place and Erika and I will be going for sure. I have been watching Food Network non-stop for the past month so I'm all psyched. OK, the truth is that the TV is always either on the Food Network orSpace, but that's besides the point. The show looks like it will be alot of fun and I'll try to take a bunch of pictures as well. Also, it looks like Kris and Roland will be eventblogging and podcasting at the show.More details can be found on VanEats or on ......

Looking for a new Pocket PC
So my old Palm finally gave up the ghost a while ago and I have beenthinking about a new one in the back of my mind. This time Idefinitely want to go with a Pocket PC just for the fact that I canwrite my own apps easily in Visual Studio with languages that Ialready know. Add to that the fact that I can bring Word and Exceldocuments along with me wherever I go, as well as music, videos andpictures and it's a no brainier. The only issue is what to get.The other day I saw Bill Hill demonstrate his Dell ......

Overclocking and Windows
Raymond Chen just posted an interesting find concerning overclocked PCs and Windows crashes. The other half said, "What's overclocking?" He called them and walked them through some configuration information and was able to conclude that they were indeed all overclocked. But these people were not overclocking on purpose. The computer was already overclocked when they bought it. These "stealth overclocked" computers came from small, independent "Bob's Computer Store"-type shops, not from one of the ......

Panaderia Latina
On a tip from my team lead (thanks Lynn!) Erika and I checked out Panaderia Latina on the weekend. It's a small bakery with all kinds of Latin style pastries and things, half of which I had no idea of what they were. They also have fresh corn tortillas and chorizzo as well as all sorts of latin items for the home cook. They have various salsas, Mexican hot chocolate, canned tomatillos and chiles poblanos and of course powdered massa harina for making tortillas, sopes or real quesadillas at home. ......

Mexican Food in Vancouver
Erika and I got a chance to meet up for lunch on Friday and thanks toRoland over at VanEats, we found Mexico Sabroso.Upon walking into the place we felt like we were in a little familyrun restaurant in Mexico. It's a very small place with only fivetables, so I would probably recommend going at off hours unless youdon't mind a wait. We went at 1:00 and grabbed the last table, but by2:00 there were a few to be had.The food was excellent, I sampled four tacos for $7 and Erika had theenchiladas. The ......
