After the love-in that was my installation of Vista, came the tricky bit – installing the applications and it was never going to be as pretty.

Problem #1 – the vanishing drive.

I installed iTunes (why I hate this application will be another post) and the DivX drivers (it was late, I had nearly finished my wine, and I wanted to watch some comedy). The next morning I attempted to install something else, and couldn’t because my DVD drive no longer worked. It wasn’t something simple either, because Vista resolutely resisted any attempt to re-install the drivers. Bizarre. I’m not the most patient of people, so after a good hour of googling and messing around I hit system restore, and everything was good again.  I have since reinstalled iTunes successfully, but not DivX, and the dvd player is happy again.
