If anyone out there is working with cars/trucks/motorcyles/trailers... any type of vehicle and has a need to get information about that vehicle based on the VIN number, you should check out a great product called VinPower from ESP Data Solutions.

It can decode a VIN and tell you the make, model, year, engine, and potentially even all the standard and optional equipment on a car.

They provide awesome developer tools for COM and Java at a very low price. If you have a use for VIN Decoding in your software, check them out.

An Auto VIN Decoder breaks down the unique alphanumeric sequence known as a Vehicle Identification Number, which is a car's fingerprint.

VIN number should be very unique, because it is the only one thing by which vehicles are getting identified.
and yes we can say VIN number is fingerprint of the vehicle!!!!

Is this useful in identifying what part of the vehicle is having problems? Like for example in my dodge ram. This will tell me what I parts do I need to replace? It should be very useful.

I would like to equip my Nissan truck with an ipad, and I want it to grab real time information about my car. A friend of mine who works in car donation told me it is all based on the VIN number, and that I'm going to need a decoder for that. Does WinPower come with an instructions manual?

There is a lot of information that is encoded in the VIN. However, there is more information tied to the VIN that the OEM's do not release to the public. Depending on the amount of data that you have to work with certain VIN decoding solutions can tell you a lot more about the vehicle using OEM codes and model numbers. If you are interested in learning more there is an informative blog article linked to below:

When most people walk into a dealership to buy a car, they are focused on the vehicle itself. With all the research they’ve done on prices, features and ratings, they’ve ignored their credit score.
