.NET Hobbyist Programmer Staying Confused in a Busy World

As I stated in an earlier post, I have been working on the EDR to get a fuse curve plotting program working.  Between that and real life travel, illness, and work around the house, June was a very thin blogging month.  Now that all that is past, I can work on other things, such as this blog.

One of the interesting tools I used to get the EDR plotting requirement done is a program called DPlot.

Link to DPlot

While the program itself is worthy of consideration, it has a free sibling called DPlot Jr.  For the programmer, it is a 36kb DLL that you include with your distribution.  The sample programs, in a variety of languages including VB.NET, show you how to use the DLL calls and provide you with the header files.  The promo description says it best.

DPlot Jr is a free scaled-down version of DPlot intended for use by programmers that want a quick method for displaying graphical output of their own applications. Unlike the full version of DPlot, DPlot Jr may be redistributed to end users without royalty payments or other restrictions. There's nothing to buy and no registration fee involved. Input to DPlot Jr is accomplished through Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE), either from your application or via the supplied DPLOTLIB interface. The end user cannot open a file or paste data from the clipboard.

The size of the DPLOTLIB DLL and the price sold us on using it for our project.  Check it out.  (I'd post a picture of our use of this program, but I cannot figure out how to post pictures to GWB.  Maybe some day....)

I don't provide a "control" as you're probably accustomed to with VB, but DPlot Jr and DPLOTLIB.DLL will definitely work with your VB.NET program. Several VB.NET examples are provided with DPlot Jr that a) use DPlot Jr to plot your data, b) hide DPlot Jr and provide a bitmap and/or an enhanced metafile representation of a plot, displayed in your app's window, c) use DPlot Jr for a real-time (in this case simulated) data acquistion scenario.

If you try DPlot or DPlot Jr and have any problems, please let me know.
