I won something pretty cool!

I just found out the other day I won something that's pretty cool....gonna wait for the "official" announcement before I plug it in here, but I'm pretty excited :)

Those of you involved at all with Community-Credit will find out about the same time I do with the official announcement...probably when the January newsletter is released.

Confessions of a performance junkie...Part I
This started out innocently enough - I was looking for a simple way to start experimenting with the Performance Wizard tool that's included with Visual Studio Team Edition for Developers so to keep things simple, my Performance Wizard "hello world!" became this little bit of code:Imports System.text Module PerfJunkie Private ReallyBigString As String Sub Concatenate(ByVal Junk As String) ReallyBigString = ReallyBigString & Junk End Sub Sub Main() For i As Int16 = 0 To (Int16.MaxValue - 1) Concatenate(CStr(i)) ......

Weird issue with Microsoft Security Bulletin MS06-073
I went to apply Microsoft Security Bulletin MS06-073 on a production box today after testing it on a VPC with no ill effects and noticed after it was installed that some weird errors came up as shown below: “Team Foundation Server MYVSTFBox does not exist or is not accessible at this time. Technical information (for administrator): HTTP code 503: TF30059: Fatal error while initializing web service” As an added bonus, suddenly nobody could get to source code through Source Explorer and Reports, Documents, ......

Installing Visual Studio 2005 SP1...still
OK so I was a good boy - I actually went over Microsoft KB Artcle 928957 prior to installing SP1 for VS2005. I took note of where it said...(to quote) Service pack installation takes longer than the original product installation: loadTOCNode(3, 'moreinformation'); Installing Visual Studio 2005 SP1 takes longer than installing the original release version because the SP1 installation is much like a product installation, but with additional installation tasks. Installation time depends on which product ......

Updating your Compact Framework apps automatically!
Those who know me know I'm hooked on the Compact Framework - imagine my surprise when I was pointed to this article in Visual Studio magazine: In the article, John Gavilan explains how to set up so that you can have your compact framework apps update themselves with newer versions which is something we've been lacking in CF world...I'm anxious to get started ......

Vista Installation
Having finally gotten a chance to install Vista on a machine of mine, I was pleasantly surprised at how much cleaner and simpler the install routine for Vista is compared to previous versions. I’ve been installing Windows operating systems since Windows 3.1 and this was by far the fastest and easiest install I’ve had to with Windows. And that’s even accounting for the rather low-end machine I put Vista on…in this case a Dell I used from Code Camp and the one I was playing with XNA on (My Vista Experience ......

TFS Bug? Any ideas?
Within the past few days I've noticed a strange behavior and confirmed it not only on 2 different projects, but also with several other developers working in my shop. What happens is that when trying a "Get Latest" for source control, nothing happens even though we *know* there is new code that was just checked in. In order to get the latest code when we've run into this issue, we have to do a "Get Latest" and force the latest (you know the little check box in the options) while also selecting the ......
