I love my new mouse!

I picked up a new wireless mouse tonight: a Microsoft Laser Mouse 5000. This thing is freaking sweet!

First off...I didn't realize that there was a difference between an optical mouse and a laser mouse. I mean, one could figure out that the optical uses LED based technology while the laser uses something else. But at first I thought I had a bad mouse: there's no light underneath it. Turns out that the laser is invisible...who'd have thunk?

Second, Microsoft has some sweet software bundled with this puppy (and also available with other mice they sell). First off is the zoom functionality:

With the Zoom functionality, you can enlarge any piece of your screen, adjusting the height/width of the area and zooming closer if you want. Very easy to navigate to use as well.

Thirdly, it has the ability to show you all open windows available at the same time, like the Mac does. And although the built-in Vista flipbook functionality is kewl, I prefer to be able to see all the available apps in a tiled mode on the screen...very kewl indeed.

There's also some programmable buttons and a 4 way scrolling wheel...standard fair for this grade of mouse.

The only thing I didn't like is the huge anchor you have to attach to the back of your computer as the wireless receiver. I suppose considering this isn't a "laptop" mouse, its understandable why they put in such a huge receiver. But when a higher model mouse requires a super small USB-BlueTooth adapter it makes you wonder why the other USB receivers need to be so big.

But that's a small complaint for a mouse that's otherwise excellent, and right now you can get it at Best Buy for $45.00 (I saw it at Future Shop for around $80.00).
