Back in the East

Monday, April 10, 2006 6:02 AM

So once again Winnipeg takes one for the team and switches back to the Eastern division with the Ottawa Renegades being suspended for the 2006 season.

However, this isn't necessarily a bad thing.

The first reaction most people will have is to look at the Allouettes and Argos and groan in the “we're so going to get our @$$es handed to us” sort of way. Not necesarily though. Our new head coach is from the Als...and there's not much difference between being in a division with the Als/ARgos and the Lions/Eskimos strength wise. The only wild card is Hamilton, although I think Calgary will look strong this year as well. So really, strength of opposition is a non factor.

The other thing to consider is that there's a better chance with Winnipeg being in the East that we *could* (and I stress 'could' because alot would have to go right in both divisions) see our dream Grey Cup: Winnipeg vs Saskatchewan...and IN Winnipeg for that matter! Of course...that would mean that *shudder* we'd have to cheer on the Roughriders in the West...but that's a small price to pay to embarass them in the big game.

So although it sucks having to be constantly tossed back and forth between divisions (our curse for being where we are in Canada), I think being in the East will be a good thing in general. As long as we get a quarterback...
