Fellow Techies of the world.. Welcome!
In this obligatory first post I want to just tell you a little about myself and what I intend to do with this blog. I’ve worked in fits and starts on a tech blog before so I’m happy to be a part of the GeeksWithBlogs community now and make it my new home.
Let’s begin at the beginning… Sometime back in 1995 my dad (who has worked with computer pretty much since there have been computers) brought home 2 books. Visual Basic 4 and Visual C++ 4 (For Beginners).
I started with C++ and I sometimes wonder how my life/career would have been different had I stuck with it, but the book was about 50% thicker than the VB one, and when I realized I could create a new form by adding one, not coding one, I was sold. VB it was.
I did a lot of Office macros and development and a few utilities in VB, but when VB6 and the original ASP was released I focused in on web applications and that’s pretty much where I’ve stayed.
After two large VB.Net projects I began working mostly in C# (but I don’t look down on VB.Net like some people do) and that’s what I’ve used for about the last 8 years or so.
I’ve often been lucky enough to work with the latest technologies. I currently work with Visual Studio 2010, SQL Server, MySql, jQuery, Entity Framework etc. I also get to play around with things like MongoDB, Windows Mobile and a bunch 3rd party APIs.
My plan is to write about solving specific problems I’ve come across, new technologies, mobile, how-to’s, as well as general programming theory and best practices. I also do a lot of development on various social media platforms and will try to focus most of what I write on social media integration.
My goal is to help my readers save time and effort, broaden their scope and become better developers!
