*mopes* My Mentor is not returning
Damn this fickle economy. After going through the gyrations at work, chuckin' and jiving for requistion approvals and HR mumbo jumbo to get my mentor approved to be rehired to the company I work at, my hopes of his triumphant return lie shattered on the rocks of uncertainty. This is the second time this has happened and frankly its starting to really tick me off. This time we actually got into the background check before the CEO revoked all open requisitions where offer letters weren't extended. ......

Wedding Prep Continues--Dress Woes
Well its been two months since I posted about the bride's maid's dress I ordered. And I'm sorry to say that the dress experience has been troublesome. I ordered the dress back in June and it came in in a quite timely fashion. The problem was that it looked as if it had been made for someone who was 7 feet tall and weighed 400 pounds. Needless to say it was VERY MUCH TOO BIG. Expecting to have trouble in this area, this is why I ordered the dress so far in advance. So I contacted the seamstress, expressed ......

Car Woes
If there is one thing I'm definitely NOT geeky about, its cars. I have a 2000 Saturn sedan and its starting to get long in the tooth. My troubles with my car started on Sunday when I noticed on the way back from dinner that the front passenger tire was low on air pressure. So I stopped at the nearest gas station to re-inflate it. This particular tire has a nasty habit of going low anyway. In fact, it seems to have always behaved that way since the car was brand new. I'm the original owner of this ......

Silent .BAT files??
I've got a .BAT file in the start menu of all the machines we run our automation scripts on. This .BAT file will update the registry to "turn off" the screen saver. We have to do this for two reasons--1) QTP will bomb if a screensaver kicks in and 2) the Net Nazis where I work have disabled the GUI used to set the screensaver settings. Yes I know its a hack but what choice do I have. My problem with this .BAT file is this: On 2 of the 5 machines, it runs completely silently. No fuss no dialogs, nothing. ......

Ordinal Assignments for Webtables
<growls with frustration> In the 50 + automation scripts I've built since April, I have 9 that are causing me grave concern. These 9 cases use Table Checkpoints to validate a webtable data display inside one of our applications. Why is that such a big deal? Well...for some reason in the OR, QTP decided to only give these tables (its the same one in all 9 cases mind you) an Ordinal Index location for indentifying the Table. I have tried adding other attributes to the OR definition but EVERY ......

What QA Folks Do When They've Had "One of Those Days"
If you've been following my blog, you know I'm a QA proffessional currently focused in the QA field of automated testing. So I thought I'd share something my first QA mentor shared with me when I had "One of Those Days" When you've had one of those days at your QA job where you just want to tell your boss to take this job and shove it, there is a simple way to make yourself feel so much better. On your way home from work, stop by at your local Pharmacy (Walgreens/CVS/Eckerds). Purchase a Johnson&Johnson ......

WoW Rant
Ok so one of the other things about me that is geekish is my affection for video games. My most recent long-standing obsession has been World of WarCraft, the latest in a long line of MMORPGs I've played over the years. And I have a rant about WoW to share with ya. For frame of reference understand that 90% of my toons are Horde. This is important for my rant. /rant on My primary character(Druid) in WoW is at the max level of 70. I worked hard to get to that point and had a blast while doing it. ......

Database Storage Comparsion...or how I learned to hate SQL Query Analyser
I'm working on a project at work that is a re-write of a piece of functionality from ASP into .NET. So the gist in a nutshell is that the new .NET forms should function exactly the same way as the ASP forms do. To the point where saving these records into the database should match excluding things like primary keys & insert date/time stamps. To throw an additional wrench into the mix there are two DBs these records get saved out into. The first datasource is as denormalized as you can get. And ......

There's no need to fear---Underdog is here!
Yes...I know...its another talking animal movie--Dog this time. But let me just say two words: Jason Lee. This actor who has been in some of my favorite movies (Chasing Amy, Dogma anyone?) plays the voice of Underdog. He is brilliant! This movie is funny, its engaging, its exciting. Yes I know this is Disney movie..but for all those geeks with kids in the Geekdom, you can take them to this film and they will love it. Its not overly violent but there are some fight sequences. The Underdog special ......
